SOUNDS MOVING TO SAN MARCOS |
|
|
November 13th, San Marcos - Finding no real interest from the media and having a "secured" gymnasium pulled from underneath their feet in Austin, the Texas Capital Sounds likely wont play any part of their 2008 season in Austin. What is certain is that they will play most of their games in San Marcos at Strahan Arena on the campus of Texas State University. The Sounds are looking at a few different sites as a second home. One scenario would have them playing games in the Alamo City where the San Antonio Soul already play. "The Knicks and Nets, the Lakers and Clippers, they play very close near each other, and while this is minor league and the situation is different, I feel that the Sounds playing part time in San Antonio could work," Sounds owner and UBL CEO Mac Claire said. "San Antonio is the basketball capital of Texas, dating back to the days when the Spurs played in the old ABA. They love basketball in San Antonio." Other possible options for the Sounds include Bulverde and New Braunfels. Oh yeah, one more thing. The Sounds are talking with the Delco Center in Austin. Delco is operated by the Austin Independent School District and indications are that the facility has been underused. Claire said "Id like to play in Austin, but well have to see."
